All Good Habits… Still, Cancer?
Thirty years old.
No smoking. No alcohol. No gutka.
He worked out every day. Did yoga now and then. Ate
reasonably well. By all appearances, he was doing everything right.
Then a small health issue came up. Nothing alarming — just
something minor, or so he thought. A few tests were done to be safe.
And that’s when the shock hit.
Cancer.
He couldn’t process it. How? That one word kept
circling in his mind. How does this happen to someone who has no bad habits? He
replayed his lifestyle again and again, searching for a mistake. He couldn’t
find one.
And he’s not alone.
How many young people around us are facing the same reality?
In our cities, in our neighborhoods, sometimes even within our own families.
If someone follows all the “right” habits, why is cancer
showing up so early? What are we missing?
Our Grandparents Lived Stronger Lives. What Changed?
Look at our fathers and grandfathers. Many of them are in
their 60s, 70s, even 80s — still active, still mentally sharp, still moving
around with surprising energy.
So why does our generation struggle with serious illnesses
so much earlier?
The difference may not be in one dramatic factor. It’s in
the small, everyday things.
From morning to night, we are surrounded by chemicals. The
food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe — none of it is as clean as
it once was.
We begin the day with a plastic toothbrush. Toothpaste
filled with artificial ingredients. Breakfast gets served hot — often on
plastic plates. Water sits in plastic bottles. Leftovers go into plastic
containers.
Hour after hour. Day after day. Year after year.
It adds up.
And that’s just one part of it. The milk we buy, the fruits
we cut, the vegetables we cook — many of them carry pesticide residues and
chemical fertilizers. It’s almost like getting toxins as a free extra with our
groceries.
Then come processed foods. Pizzas. Burgers. Sugary soft
drinks.
When you look at the whole picture, the question changes.
Instead of asking, “Why is cancer happening at 30?” we start wondering, “How
could it not?”
Think Back to Childhood
Close your eyes and remember your grandmother’s house.
Brushing teeth with a neem stick. Or simple tooth powder
rubbed in with a finger. Bathing with herbal powders instead of chemical soaps.
Meals served in brass plates. Water stored in copper
vessels. Fresh milk straight from the backyard cow. Clean air from trees in the
courtyard.
Children didn’t sit indoors glued to screens. They ran.
Climbed. Swam. Played until they were drenched in sweat.
Bathing with plastic buckets? That wasn’t even common. There
were brass vessels. Copper boilers heating water.
Vegetables came fresh from the farm or home garden. After a
full day of activity and wholesome food, sleep came easily — often outdoors,
under the open sky, on woven cots.
No air-conditioners. No coolers.
It wasn’t one special habit that kept them healthy. It was
an entire way of living.
That’s why many of them lived longer, stronger lives.
So Where Does That Leave Us?
Is cancer attacking us out of nowhere?
Or are we, slowly and unknowingly, creating the conditions
for it?
Modern life has brought comfort and convenience. There’s no
denying that. But comfort shouldn’t come at the cost of our health.
Progress is good — as long as it doesn’t quietly work
against us.
Maybe the real question isn’t just, “Why are diseases
increasing?”
Maybe it’s this: What kind of lifestyle are we choosing
every single day?
